Updated printing information (fall semester 2009):

What: The ESF Computing Center now charges for all printing in an effort to stop the incredible waste of past years. Faculty, Staff, and Students are given a 500 unit quota to use on public printers at ESF for the academic year. Print quota will not transfer from academic year to academic year and will reset the weekend prior to the start of the semester. Note that Faculty/Staff charges are new for the fall of 2009. The print quota reset this year will occur on 8/30/09.

Procedure: When the initial quota is exhausted, the individual can go to the Cashier’s office in Bray Hall (102 Bray Hall) to purchase additional printing units. 500 printing units cost $20.00 for the fall of 2008 ($10.00 for 250 units). After purchasing, students present their receipt to a CNS worker in room 317 Baker Labs (the HelpDesk) to have their quota replenished. Faculty and Staff can use State/Research account numbers to add quotas. Please give the HelpDesk attendant in 317 Baker Labs all pertinent information to facilitate the purchase of quota from an account.

Why: During the academic year 2006-2007, ESF students printed almost one million pages on Computing Center equipment. About 10% of this was left behind as waste. Results were similar in 2007-2008.

How: When you need to print, select File --> Print and choose your printer from the drop-down list. Next, print your document and go to room 317 Baker within 30 minutes. Find the “Release Station” touch monitor, find your print job, and tap print. Finally, wait for your document to print from the selected printer and take it with you.

NOTE: When you print in Moon Library, there is no release station and your job is sent directly to the printer. Your printing allotment is charged for each print job, so print carefully and wait for your job to emerge from the printer. If you leave before your document prints, you are still charged.

NOTE on 'Charges:' 'Page,' or unit, costs will vary with printer. If you print on a color laser printer you are charged 5 units from your quota for a single-sided page. If you duplex (print on both sides of the page) on a color laser printer, you are charged 10 units from your quota per double-sided page. If you use the black and white laser printers, you are charged 1 unit from your quota for every page-side printed. Charges on the large format printer in room 317 Baker are 15 units per square foot. For a normal 3'X4' poster, you are charged 180 units.

Page refunds: If something does not print and you are charged for the job, you can request a page refund in 317 Baker Labs for that job. Be prepared to identify the faulty print job by document name.
