  Printing

NEW Printing restrictions (fall semester 2007):

What: On August 27, 2007, the ESF Computing Center will begin to monitor student printing in an effort to stop the incredible waste of past years. Students will be given a 500 page quota to use on public printers at ESF for the academic year.

Why: During the academic year 2006-2007, ESF students printed almost one million pages on Computing Center equipment. About 10% of this was left behind as waste.

How: When you need to print, select File --> Print and choose your printer from the drop-down list. Next, print your document and go to room 317 Baker within 20 minutes. Find the Release Station touch monitor, find your print job, and tap print. Finally, wait for your document to print from the selected printer.

NOTE: When your print in Moon Library, there is no release station and your job is sent directly to the printer. Your allotment of paper is charged for each print job, so print carefully and wait for your job to emerge from the printer. If you leave before your document prints, you are still charged.

What happens if I run out of paper? If you use up your quota, you can come to room 317 Baker when Computing Center staff are on duty and apply for additional quota. You will fill out a survey and be granted pages according to the number of requests you have made. Each time you request additional quota, the number of pages you will receive is cut in half. So, for your first request, you will receive 250 pages and so on.

NOTE on 'Charges:' 'Page' costs will vary with printer. If you print on a color laser printer on only one side of the page, you will be charged 2 pages from your quota. If you duplex (print on both sides of the page) on a color laser printer, you will still be charged 2 pages from your quota (a discount of 1 'page' per printed side). If you use the black and white laser printers, you will be charged 1 page from your quota for every one-sided page printed.

Page refunds: If something does not print and you are charged for the job, you can request a page refund in 317 Baker Labs for that job.
