: How do you store your data?

Individual data storage for ESF students is generally handled 2 ways: storage you carry with you and storage that stays on the network. Storing data directly on any ESF public/lab PCs is not supported.

Storage you carry with you: The most common carry-away storage is the USB flash disk. These come in a variety of capacities (usually up to 16 GB) and are infinitely forgettable. PLEASE remember to safely remove your flash drive from the PC that you are using (and log off/restart) before you leave.

Storage that stays on the network: Each student is given storage space on the network that is tied to their SU NetID. Where ever the student logs in, their data follows them. You can access this space through the 'H:' drive on any public/lab PC at ESF and SU. Note that some departmental labs are not included in this and the H: drive will not appear in those locations. The H: drive can hold up to 250 MB of data. Though this is a relatively small amount, it is convenient in that it follows you from location to location as you log in and can not be left behind (unless you forget to log off when you are finished).

NOTICE:

Please switch to USB storage devices (USB flash drives) as soon as possible as your 'carry with you' form of storage. New public PCs purchased at ESF will no longer come with floppy or zip disk drives.

  Scan for Viruses Today

Please help keep the ESF Computing Center PCs free of virus infection by scanning your flash disks/thumb drives. Double-click on the shield near the system clock (see below), choose 'Scan Computer,' select the letter of your flash drive, and click the 'Scan' button.

Use current antivirus software at home

Please use current, up-to-date antivirus software on your home PC. This will help protect both you and the ESF Campus.

Remember: There is no such thing as a truly reliable automatic system. Never assume that your antivirus software is being updated -- check it.
