Still need anti-virus software?
If you will be using your computer while physically located on the
ESF campus, you may download Symantec (formerly Norton) AntiVirus
from
http://cns.esf.edu; updates may be obtained only while on
campus, and you must remove the software upon graduation, transfer
to another college, or otherwise separate from the institution. See
that page for low cost options for your personally owned, stay at
home computers. |
WARNING:
Users who infect other systems through
Evergreen,
who
slow the network with
Spyware/Adware, or use it for other malicious activity may be
permanently banned from this network. |
General Logon Instructions:
1) |
Turn on your device, and gain access to your desktop. |
2) |
Associate your device with the wireless network:
Evergreen.
This process varies greatly between computers
and Operating systems. For Windows XP with SP2, you typically see a notice that
the wireless system has found a network; follow the on-screen
instructions to connect to the SSID Evergreen. |
3) |
Start a Web Browser. Internet Explorer and Firefox have been
tested to date. |
4) |
When you receive this warning, click 'Yes' to connect to
Evergreen.
If your browser displays a message that “a page
cannot be displayed” (or similar message), you may need to 1)
refresh the page, 2) clear your browser cache, and/or
3) restart, and try again. If your device is functioning
properly, you will eventually get this or a similarly worded
message. |
5) |
Authentication using the aforementioned ESF NetID. |
If there is no space specifically for the Domain, it must be
included as a prefix to the username as ‘domain\username’ as
shown above. Please use the 'back-slash' located above the
‘Enter’ key on most keyboards and click the 'Login' button when
your NetID information is properly entered. |
6) |
Connecting to the network... |
If your login information is accepted by the system, you will see
some variation of the following page indicating that you are
being connected to the
Evergreen network. You will be automatically redirected
to your browser's usual home page. |
If the system could not properly intercept your home page, you
will be redirected to your device's default, local blank page,
About:Blank. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM! If it happens, simply
enter an address on the Address line of your browser or click
the Home icon in your browser's tool bar. |
Caution: There are adware/spyware applications that will subvert
the About:Blank page to their own purposes. If you see the
About:Blank page, it should be blank. If it is not blank, then
you may have contracted a Trojan or adware/spyware program. This
may interfere with the proper operation of your browser which
may interfere with your ability to use
Evergreen. |
7) |
Congratulations! You are now connected to Evergreen.
