Click below to download and use the CNS Network Information Utility.
With this utility, you can send CNS information about your network
settings and connection and reset your settings to work with the next
generation ESF Campus Network. You should only reset your network
connection settings if asked specifically to do so by the Utility or CNS
staff. Please read the text
on the Utility completely when it is running.
The Network Information Utility:
 | Is for users running Windows 2000, XP, or Vista. Mac users can
visit the above link for manual instructions; users of older
versions of Windows can send an email to HelpDesk@esf.edu to
schedule a visit from CNS staff to assist. |
 | Will change a PC’s IP address and associated network settings to
conform to a newer version of the ESF Campus Network PROVIDED the
users chooses the reset option.. |
 | Will send network device-specific information to CNS to allow us
to update our records. |
 | Can only reset your settings if you are logged in as the
administrator of your PC. |
| PC/Windows users (Windows 2000, XP, Vista): |

Note: When prompted,
choose 'Run' and then 'Run' again. |
| WARNING: DO
NOT use this Utility if you have a PC connected to BOTH the
Campus network and a piece of analytical equipment via IP
communication. Call X6861 or contact HelpDesk
to schedule an appointment to have your settings converted
manually. |

| PC/Windows users (Windows 3.1, 95, 98): |
| Please contact HelpDesk to
schedule an appointment to have settings for these versions of
Windows reset. Please tell us where the PC is located and what
version of Windows it is running. |

| Mac users: |
| Depending on your version of the Mac OS, your experience will
vary. |
| To Reset your network settings on a Mac: Generally, from 'System
Preferences', select 'Network', and then select your 'Ethernet'
adapter. If the 'Configure' type is set to 'Manual' or 'Manually,'
change this setting to 'Using DHCP.' If you experience issues after
performing this operation, please call X6861 for assistance. |

| Windows 2000/General Windows Procedure (IF the
Utility does not appear to work). |

Click Start
à
Control Panel (or Settings -- > Control Panel).

Double-click ‘Network Connections’
|
 |
Right-Click on the appropriate ‘Local Area
Connection’ listing (The one with a status of
Connected) and choose ‘Properties.’
|
 |
In
the resulting list box, find ‘Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP),’ click it and then click Properties.
|
 | Check 'Obtain an IP address
automatically' |
 | Check 'Obtain DNS server
address automatically' |
 | Click OK |
 | Click OK again. |

Issues:
 | This Utility is for use on the ESF main Campus in Syracuse only. If
used off Campus, this Utility will yield incorrect results. |
 | Two text files are saved to the desktop (or location that the
Utility is executed from) as the Utility runs. You can save these
files for your records or discard them. These files contain the
information that is transferred to CNS. |
 | DO NOT use this Utility if you have a PC connected to BOTH the
Campus network and a piece of analytical equipment via IP
communication. Call X6861 or contact HelpDesk
to schedule an appointment to have your settings converted manually. |
 | Users of networked printers (printers plugged directly to the
network) will need to call X6861 or contact HelpDesk
to schedule an appointment to have their printer reconfigured to
conform to the new settings. |
 | Users of devices that require statically set IP addresses will
need to call X6861 or contact HelpDesk
to obtain the required information to set on their specific device.
CNS can not assist with some devices, so please contact us and we
will determine if this applies to your situation. |

Virus Protection at ESF:
For all
PCs that connect to the ESF Campus Network
Click here to install the latest Campus version of
Symantec Endpoint Protection MR4 (Symantec Antivirus 11). Advantages of
using this version are:
- It is free to users of PCs that connect to the ESF Campus
(Both State and personally owned).
- It is automatically updated to assure that you are always
protected.
- It includes protection against general
network threats, Spyware, and Intrusion.
Note: This is version 11.0
(Maintenance Release 4) of
Symantec Antivirus. Please click
here to learn about upgrading
to this new version from the previous ESF Campus versions
9.0/7.6.

The gold shield with the green
dot means you are protected. If you do not see
the green dot, and are connected to the Campus
Network, you may need to reinstall the software.
