Client Network Settings

Networking information Should be set as follows:

	IP address: 149.119.X.X (X.X is specifically assigned to each computer)
	Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
	Default Gateway: 149.119.X.X (X.X depends on Campus location)
	DNS host name: Automatically assigned
	DNS domain: esf.edu
	WINS Server 1: 149.119.6.123 (Windows only)
	WINS Server 2: 149.119.6.203 (Windows only)
	DNS server 1: 149.119.6.203
	DNS server 2: 149.119.6.123

Computer Name (Computer Identification on the Network):

This may be chosen by the user as long as it is not duplicated on the network. If you are uncertain about a computer name, please contact us to confirm whether it is a valid name or not. Set this on the identification tab under network properties (Windows 95/98/Me) or under Properties of My Computer, Network Identification tab (Windows 2000/XP).


	SU Network & ESF Please never refer directly to any Syracuse University services in your Network Settings. If you see numbers such as 128.230.12.5 (or any other number that begins with 128.230.X.X), please remove them as soon as possible and replace them with numbers from this site that will work directly with the ESF Campus Network.


	Never choose your own IP Address All network settings must come from Computing and Network Services. If a user chooses their own address, they may negatively impact another user of the network in general.
