Network Service Outages:

 

11/13/09:

 

All network and computing services at ESF, including internal and external systems (e.g. email, www, login, etc.), will be unavailable from 6 am until 10 am on Saturday, November 14 (11/14/2009) due to a planned power outage. CNS asks that ESF employees please turn off ALL Computing equipment (PCs, monitors, printers, etc.) at some point on Friday, November 13 (Today) prior to leaving Campus for the day. The Campus was most recently notified of this power outage in an email dated November 10, 2009.

 

11/12/09:

 

Computing and Network Services will soon begin improvements to the data network in several areas of the Campus which will affect all employees and students using a personal computer on the wired and wireless networks in these areas. Impacted areas include primarily Marshall Hall and Bray Hall.

 

Timeline for Campus Network improvements:

 

11/13/09:  Work will begin. Between the hours of 4 and 5 PM the ESF wireless network (EvergreenX) will experience intermittent network service outages lasting 10 to 30 minutes. These outages will be experienced wherever wireless access is available.

 

11/22/09:  Work will continue. Between the hours of noon and 4:30 PM users in all affected buildings will experience intermittent, building-wide wired network service outages lasting 30 minutes to 1 hour. After 4:30 PM, outages will be more numerous and longer in duration and will continue until approximately 8 PM.

 

11/23/09:  Work will continue. Between the hours of noon and 4:30 PM users in Marshall Hall will experience brief, intermittent wired network service outages (in specific areas) lasting 5 to 15 minutes. After 4:30 PM, outages will be more numerous and longer in duration and will continue until approximately 8 PM.

 

11/24/09:  Work will continue. Between the hours of noon and 4:30 PM users in Bray Hall will experience intermittent, building-wide wired network service outages lasting 5 to 15 minutes. After 4:30 PM, outages will be more numerous and longer in duration and will continue until approximately 8 PM.

 

11/3/09:

 

Please look out for suspicious emails. Computing and Network Services has had numerous reports today of emails appearing to come from the recipient (both the sender and recipient are the same). These emails typically have an apparently random subject and body message with a link. Please do not click the link as there appears to be a connection between these messages and a new Trojan program that has appeared on Campus. If you have received one of the emails and have clicked the link, you may find that your PC’s performance is severely degraded and that you receive continuous messages warning of infection from a program called ‘Security Tool.’ Please contact the CNS HelpDesk (X6861/HelpDesk@esf.edu) to schedule a visit if you find that your PC has been infected with this, or other, Trojan/Virus.

 

10/19/09:

 

ESF Campus Network service (both wired and wireless), will be intermittently unavailable from 4:30 pm until 5 pm today (10/19/2009) due to system maintenance and testing. Outages, when they occur, are planned to be brief (5 minutes in duration). We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

 

8/28/09 (10am):

8/27/09 (5 pm):

 

The Campus email service is currently unavailable. We are working to return the system to service and can not now estimate how long this process will take. Thank you for your patience.

 

5/1/09:

 

There will be planned intermittent outages in Campus network-based software packages (including ESRI products, Erdas products, Envi, Matlab (research license), and MathCad) this afternoon beginning at 4:30 pm and ending at approximately 5:30 pm. Interruptions will be brief (10 -15 minutes per system) during this period as we perform maintenance on the equipment. We apologize for any inconvenience that these outages may cause.

 

4/22/09:

 

Following is a note from SU regarding our Internet outage this morning:

This is an update message for the ITS Alert/Notification titled: network disruptions reported

 

This morning at about 10:15 a.m. an electrical power problem affecting a small number of core network devices caused the interruption of Internet service to the entire SU campus, and the SUNY ESF campus.  Data network connectivity was also interrupted between the Data Center and the Maxwell School and South Campus.  The power problem was resolved at about 10:30 a.m., restoring Internet service and network connectivity.

3/31/09:

 

ESF Campus Wireless Network service (EvergreenX), will be intermittently unavailable from 4:30 pm until 5 pm today (3/31/2009) due to system maintenance and testing. Outages, when they occur, are planned to be brief (5-10 minutes in duration). We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

 

3/19/09:

 

ESF networked services and administrative systems, including internal and external systems (e.g. email, student records, Faculty/Staff services, departmental data shares, etc.), will be intermittently unavailable from 4:30 pm until 5:30 pm tomorrow (Thursday 3/19/2009) due to planned system maintenance and testing. Users who experience issue connecting to ESF systems, especially email on a Campus computer, after this time should restart their PC and try connecting to the specific system again. General network and Internet service will be unaffected during this period.

 

2/11/09:

 

There was a brief interruption to email/login services on the ESF Campus Network between 8 and 9 am this morning. During this period, users could not successfully authenticate and, there fore, could not successfully login to their PCs or access systems such as ESF email or some administrative records systems. Thank you to all who reported the issue to the Help Desk at X6861.

 

2/17/09:

 

All Campus networked services, including internal and external systems (e.g. email, www, etc.), may be intermittently unavailable from 5 pm until 7 pm tomorrow (2/18/2009) due to planned system maintenance and testing. Outages, if they occur, are planned to be brief (5-10 minutes in duration). We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

 

2/19/09:

 

No negative complaints have been logged as a result of last nights activities. The required changes were made without incident. Thank you all for your cooperation.
