  PC SAS

Individual Renewals for PCs:

Syracuse University’s Office of Computing and Media Services (CMS) manages a licensing and maintenance program for SAS products for Windows and Macintosh workstations for users at SU and ESF. It is a relatively easy matter to order your renewal on their online form (http://its.syr.edu/purchases/software/sas) . The pull down and check box menus direct you to enter what you are ordering (i.e., version of new installation, renewal, whether or not you need media), the version of SAS that you are running, your operating system, your name and contact information, whether you want to use the “home use” provision (there is no extra fee for this), whether you will pay by check (plus 8.0% sales tax) or purchase order (plus a $25 percent processing fee), and if you accept the terms of the “SAS Campuswide License Agreement.” Once you submit this information, either send a check payable to Syracuse University and sent to Computing and Media Services, 120 Hinds Hall, attention Maureen Riley, or send a complete and signed purchase requisition to ESF’s Purchasing Office in 102 Bray Hall. Once your payment is received, you will receive the SETINIT by email. Opening SETINIT.SAS will launch SAS; simply “submit” this as you would any other SAS file. That’s it. NOTE: THIS SIMPLE METHOD REQUIRES THAT YOU RENEW YOUR SAS LICENSE AND SUBMIT SETINIT.SAS PRIOR TO THE EXPIRATION DATE.

Multiple orders OR for use on a Macintosh computer:

The online form is useful for ordering or renewing a single license that will be used on a single computer (or by a single user on both home and office computers). However, the pricing is not valid for Macintosh users, and those placing orders for multiple renewals or a combination of renewals and new orders can save processing fees by bundling the orders on a single purchase order. Please send a description of your situation to Sue Heeley or Maureen Reilly at suorders@syr.edu, and they will direct you accordingly.

New installations:

To install SAS for the first time from new media for a single individual on a PC, use the same form as for renewals. Please note that neither SU’s CMS nor ESF’s Computing and Network Services (CNS) loan SAS media. However, you may purchase media from CMS or borrow the media from any individual on campus that might have them (provided you have properly purchased a license). Media sets currently available for purchase are SAS 9.1.3 and SAS 8.2 for Windows and SAS 6.12 for Macintosh. Please note that Version 9.1.3 runs on Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP only; it will not run on versions of Windows such as Windows 95, 98, or ME. Students are also required to sign a “student use agreement” form available in 120 Hinds Hall; once this is on file, you may renew SAS as long as you are affiliated with ESF or Syracuse University.

Information that comes with the renewal:

A text file is included with the renewal SETINIT that contains further information about SAS licensing and how it is applied or renewed.

SAS documentation:

SAS documentation can be obtained in the following 2 forms:

HTML SAS documentation

PDF SAS documentation
