  Microsoft Service Packs

It may often be required, and a good idea, to install the latest Service Pack for the Operating System that your PC is running. Below are the latest service packs for the listed operating systems. It is desirable to obtain these Service Packs through Windows Update, but if this does not work for some users, they can obtain the files below.

Before proceeding, close all programs. When finished, your PC will restart. If it does not restart, please do so manually.

Please select your Operating System:

Windows NT4: Install Service Pack 6a

Windows 2000: Install Service Pack 4

bullet Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 (Install this after Service Pack 4 to reduce the number of Windows updates required)

Windows XP: Install Service Pack 2

For all of the above:

When prompted, click 'Open' or 'Run' and follow the prompts to complete the installation. Service Packs files are quite large and will require a substantial amount of free hard drive space (and time) to install. You should be sure that your PC has at least 250 to 300 MB of hard drive space free prior to installation.

Windows 95 Windows 98, and Windows Me do not have 'Service Packs,' but can sometimes be updated through Windows Update.

Please contact CNS if you need assistance with this process.

What Operating System and Service Pack are you using?

Right click on the 'My Computer' icon on the desktop or under the Start menu and choose properties. The 'General' tab will tell you both your operating system and what Service Pack you have installed.
