  @ESF

Network file storage, in the form of a 'Home' or H: drive, is available to ESF Faculty and Staff whose PCs are joined to the ESF domain. To start, users receive 1 GB of backed-up storage available from anywhere on Campus they log into the ESF.EDU (ESFADMIN) domain. Only the person who is logging in can access their data storage, so this is yet another reason to protect your username and password. This storage space is backed-up nightly and changes are tracked for (currently) 7 days. If you misplace a file and let us know within the week, we can restore the files or folders for you.

Common Questions:

How can I use this storage space?

You can use this space in any way that you would use another drive on your PC (the C: drive for example). You could use the space as a backup location for important files or your could use it for files that you are actively working on. The choice is up to you up to the limits of your allotted storage space (currently 1 GB).

How do I tell whether I am logging into the ESF.EDU domain or not?

To tell if you are participating in the ESF Campus domain, you need to consider how you log in. If you see a 3 line login prompt when you start your PC in the morning that has the 'ESFADMIN' choice in the 'Log on to:' list (as in the following image), then you are already set up and should be connecting automatically to your H: drive.

How can I become a domain member?

To join your PC to the ESF Campus domain, please contact HelpDesk@esf.edu to make an appointment.

How do I find this storage space?

This storage space is automatically connected to eligible PCs as the H: drive. The H: drive can be accessed just like any other drive letter that your Campus PC has access to. The name of the drive will include your username.

How do I use this storage space?

Your H: drive can be used exactly as any other drive on your PC. You can drag-and-drop/copy-paste files to it or save to it directly from programs such as Microsoft Word.

Are the files I save to the H: drive available off Campus?

Files saved to your H: drive are not currently available off Campus. We are working on a system that will facilitate off-Campus access, but it is only in testing at this time.

Can I share the files stored here with others on Campus?

No, files stored in this space are not directly shareable with others users. This is your personal 'home' space.

Can Mac users access the H: drive?

Mac users can contact HelpDesk@esf.edu to get options for networked storage on Campus.
