Windows XP SP2
Installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2):
Following is the recommended method for installing Windows XP Service
Pack 2 (SP2) to assure continued, complete functionality of ESF's
Norton/Symantec Antivirus software:
- Install Windows XP Service Pack 2. If you have already
installed SP2, please skip to step 2 below. Click
here
for instructions on determining your current version of Windows and what
Service Packs
are installed. NOTE: This step
is specific to Windows XP users. SECURITY
WARNINGS: You may see a security warning regarding the
safety of files that are downloaded/downloadable. In this case, the
file is certified safe and you can proceed with the download.
 | From
an ESF Server (Choose 'Open' or 'Run' when prompted and then
follow stated instructions). |
 |
From Windows Update
(Follow instructions on site). |
 | Via Automatic Updates. If you see this icon
next to the clock in the lower right-hand corner of your desktop,
double-click it, click the 'Details' button, and look for SP2 as one
of the available updates. If it is there, install it. If it is not
there, choose one of the other 2 methods above. |
- Install Windows XP SP2 Firewall
Fix for Norton/Symantec Antivirus (Select 'Run' and then 'Run'
again to install). This program fixes issues with all versions of
Norton/Symantec Antivirus and is required whether you choose to
upgrade your Antivirus software or not.
NOTE: This step is specific to Windows XP users.
Upgrade from Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition to Symantec
AntiVirus:
After installing SP2, we strongly suggest removing the old
version of Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition (version 7.61) and installing the new
version of Symantec AntiVirus (version 9.01).
- Uninstall Norton Antivirus Corporate
Edition (version 7.61) (This includes uninstalling both Norton
AntiVirus Corporate Edition and LiveUpdate).
- Install NEW version of
Symantec Antivirus (version 9.01)
-
Run Windows Update to receive any additional updates that might
be available.
