Email Client Settings
Email client settings for the ESF Campus and home.
Many users on the ESF Campus Network use Microsoft Outlook (the
official ESF email client) to connect to the ESF Mail Server. Outlook
is referred to as an 'Exchange client' and maintains a connection to
the ESF Mail Server allowing for immediate email delivery to the
user's desktop when used on Campus. The full version of
Microsoft Outlook is available free of charge to all users of ESF
email accounts.
For non-Exchange clients, referred to as 'POP clients,' such as Eudora, Pegasus Mail,
Netscape Mail, and Outlook
Express (or the full version of Outlook specifically configured to be
a POP client) the following settings must be used:
For ESF Mail:
On Campus:
 | Outgoing SMTP server: mail.esf.edu (must check setting
for 'Server requires authentication' after February 1, 2004) |
 | Incoming POP3 server: mail.esf.edu |
Home:
 | Outgoing SMTP server: The mail server provided by your ISP should
be used for this purpose. Email sent in this manner still appears to
be coming from your ESF email account, but is 'relayed' through your
ISP's mail server. If you have questions regarding what mail server to
use here, please contact you ISP.
The local Road Runner SMTP server is as follows:
smtp-server.twcny.rr.com. |
 | Incoming POP3 server: mail.esf.edu |
For SU Mail:
-OR-
You can avoid all of these settings and use the
MyMail Web-based email
system or the ESF email Web Access system.
